Jini Lavelle Mindfulness Specialist

Jini Lavelle is now practising in Brighton/Hove. She is a Mindfulness specialist, psychologist and therapist. She founded Oxford Mindfulness in 1999, the first programme of Mindfulness - Based Stress Reduction for the public in the UK. This programme was researched by the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry. Jini Lavelle studied Fine Art at Oxford University and trained as a psychologist and practised psychotherapy for many years. She began her practice and study of meditation and yoga in the 1970s. She is the Director of Brighton Mindfulness.

Forseeing the applications of mindfulness in education she wrote Mindfulness For Schools, a manual of mindfulness for teachers and teenagers, (www.mindfulnessforschools.com.). Working with Professor Mark Williams at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre she was the Project Leader for Mindfulness in Schools and carried out research in Oxfordshire Secondary Schools.

Jini Lavelle has been training the public, health professionals and mindfulness teachers for over 14 years. She works with educational establishments, schools and public organisations.

 

Jini Lavelle pioneered mindfulness in the UK founding Oxford Mindfulness in 1999, the first programme of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for the public. Synthesising Jon Kabat-Zinn’s original programme of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, for depression by Professors John Teasdale, Mark Williams and Zindal Segal, she established the highly successful programme of Mindfulness Stress Management [MSM].

She is a psychologist, psychotherapist and mindfulness teacher. She studied Fine Art at Oxford University before training as a psychologist, practising psychotherapy for many years, yoga, meditation and studying Buddhism.

During her time teaching Mindfulness to the public, mental health professionals, teachers and organisations, and training Mindfulness teachers she recognised the benefits of the preventative nature of mindfulness for wellbeing, resilience and concentration. Her pioneering research led to writing the first Manual of Mindfulness for Teachers and Teenagers in the UK. www.mindfulnessforschools.com. she collaborated on the .b Mindfulness in Schools programme and with Professor Mark Williams, led the research at Oxford Mindfulness Centre, Oxford University, in Oxfordshire schools.

Her experience in mental health is extensive having also worked for Oxfordshire Mind and as a psychiatric and forensic service advocate for many years, since the foundation of the mental health advocacy service. She brings long experience, sensitivity and her acclaimed teaching skills to her transformational work with clients.
